The decision was taken after a three-hour meeting between De Biasi and president Urbano Cairo today.

"We have mutually agreed to cancel the contract after a meeting with the coach this morning," Cairo told Radio Kiss Kiss.

"However, we have established a good relationship, and ended things on a positive note.

"A final decision on the new coach will be made by next week."

De Biasi was surprisingly fired and replaced by Alberto Zaccheroni last summer, after leading the club into the Serie A.

However, Zac failed to get it right, which saw De Biasi return to the club in February, after six consecutive defeats.

His road, however, seems to have come to an end now. Sampdoria's departing Walter Novellino is supposed to be the favourite.
